Mothers’ Union

The Beckington Group Mothers’ Union has members from Frome, Norton St Philip and Rode, we welcome all.

Our meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month and begin with a short service, followed by news from the Diocese, to keep us in touch with all that is going on around the whole Diocese. We are the only branch in the Frome Deanery. At most meetings we welcome a visiting speaker. Throughout the pandemic we have kept in touch with Mothers Union members by phone and email. We even tried the occasional zoom meeting. We were pleased to get back to face to face meetings whilst still ensuring we keep each other safe.

Our members run and work at the local Contact Centre in Frome. This was set up and is funded by Mothers’ Union as a Millennium project. And has been running for  twenty one years. It is very successful. We would welcome interest from those who might consider volunteering at the centre. Child Contact Centres are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with non-resident parents and sometimes other family members, in a comfortable and safe environment.  It runs fortnightly throughout the year. .

We fund raise for other MU projects such as Literacy, Away from it all Holidays, Refuges. And fund workers in countries abroad in the work that they carry out with families.

Some of us knit hats for seamen, teddies for baptism, and jumpers for refugee children.

Once a year we lead Cathedral Prayers in the Lady Chapel at Wells Cathedral.

Mothers Union is a worldwide organisation. We are made of up of women and men of all ages. In our area we are especially grateful for the prayers of our older members, sometimes known as “At Home” members.

Let’s make something together
